Title Transfer Smog

DMV Title Transfer Smog Check

DMV Title Transfer Smog Check -

For transfer title situations the SELLER is responsible for providing a smog check certificate at the time of sale or transfer. Smog certifications are good only for 90 days from the date of issuance. If the vehicle is current on its registration, and the last smog check was over 90 days ago, say 6 months ago, this is not valid for transfer, and puts any potential buyer at risk of buying a lemon.

Exceptions:

  1. Smog check’s are not required for gasoline vehicles that are less than 4 years of age; however, if you are financing through a bank, the bank may require a passing smog.
  2. The four or less model year rule does not apply to diesels, and so require a smog check for transfer.
  3. If a family transfer (siblings, children, parents, grandparents), a smog check is not needed for transfer. Other family members/relationships are NOT exempt, and require a smog check for transfer.

Pass ‘N Go Smog Center is licensed with the DMV to complete the title transfer process and issue new registration, stickers, and plates. New titles are mailed to the new owners address by the DMV within 10 business days. Pass ‘N Go is also licensed by the Bureau of Automotive Repair to provide smog check inspections for all drivers in Vista CA or Oceanside.
